Education

Johnathan Clark is an undergraduate student concentrating in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University.  He is currently pursuing his A.B. degree and conducting research that will constitute his senior honors thesis.

Research Interests

Johnathan aims to research how genetic factors interact with environmental and physiological factors to influence communication, including song in birds.  He is interested in approaching this question from multiple angles, including behavioral genomics, neuroanatomy, and ethology.  Johnathan is currently studying the population genomics of the Gray-cheeked thrush and the Bicknell's thrush, a cryptic species pair only distinguishable in the field by song morphology and the altitude at which they are found.  The goal is to identify genetic factors responsible for their differences in habitat and behavior.  Johnathan is also interested in the capability of genomics to play a role in conservation and inform new or developing conservation methods.
